Rain... Rain...

Rain rain go away,
Come again another day.
Little Johnny wants to play;
Rain, rain, go to Spain,
Never show your face again!

Here is some interesting history about this nursery rhyme that many might not know:

The history and origins of the lyrics to this English nursery rhyme date back to the reign of Elizabeth I, one of the Tudor monarchs. During this period of English history there was constant rivalry with Spain culminating in the Spanish Armada consisting of many Spanish galleons being sent to attack England. This attempt failed, not only because of the swift nature of the smaller English ships but also by the stormy weather which scattered the Armada fleet. Hence the origins of the Nursery rhyme!

This was never a favorite nursery rhyme as a kid, because I've always liked rain. I remember as a kid singing it but when the part came to say "go away, come again another day", I told the rain it could stay as long as it wanted. In fact when it starts to rain now, I get giddy just like a kid. I even find myself humming this song and still asking it to stay! So today two of my friends went out to play and jumped in a few puddles!

So, who else likes rainy days like me?

Megan have you heard the song "Clumsy Card House" by Blue October? It might be right up your alley. Then you can sing that the next time it rains. :)

Rainy days are bliss especially when you've got a good book. In fact, got one right here, right now...rainy day that is...the book will have to wait. Dinner party to cook for!!
