Life Can Throw A Mean Curveball!

I found out over the weekend that a girlfriend has breast cancer. I know that before the phone call came I was bitching and complaining about why we have so much shit in our house! It is truly amazing how one can be going on about nonsense stuff while another is dealing with her fate and what kind of impact this will have on her children. When she called me, she asked if I was busy and I chuckled because I was hoping to get out of my little hell hole (yes folks I'm still dealing with the chaos of the basement) She asked if we could talk so I walked upstairs jokingly saying, "So is it the good, the bad or the ugly?" She with a nervous chuckle said, "pretty much the ugly!"

She proceeded to tell me of her diagnosis and that they found it in the early stages. In fact, they described it as a cluster of little grains of salt. She wanted to find out what I would do in this situation and wondered why she would go straight to the surgeon and not go to an Oncologist first. Now my husband is a surgeon so I am quite familiar with the steps that you go through after being diagnosed. A huge portion of his practice is dealing with breast cancer. I told her I'd go straight to the surgeon because he (there are only men) would be the one that goes in and cuts it out. Then after that is done you go to the Oncologist to discuss if further treatment like radiation or chemo is necessary.

I told her that absolutely if this were me I would have no problems having them go and lop off my girlfriends. Hell, they are huge and in the way most of the time. I'm just not attached to them and my husband sees so many boobs during a day, I don't think he looks at mine like he use to. I understand that by removing them doesn't mean that I'd be in the clear but it would be a chance I would be willing to take.

I have a lot of hope for her. She is a very strong and amazing person. She, just like me she is a glass is half full kinda gal! We don't have the time to take the energy and be all negative, what does that do for anyone? I will be by her side and will do anything I can to help her get through this. I know she would do the same for me.

If you wouldn't mind saying a few prayers for my friend, she goes in and sees the surgeon today. She won't be seeing my husband but a partner of his. My husband did call her last night to ease her mind and answer any questions she had. I am so thankful I have him and I know she felt better after talking to him.

We are having some more flurries today, gotta love the Midwest! Enjoy your Monday!

Megan

Meg, I am so sorry to hear this and of course we'll say a prayer for her! Unfortunately, I got the same phone call a few weeks ago. One of my oldest friends, and the sweetest girl you can imagine. She had her surgery and starts radiation today. Let's keep all of these wonderful girls in our hearts and prayers. And pray for a cure, too!

Gosh, I'm so sorry your friend is facing this. Thank God they found it early, though. Still, life has such a weird way of putting us back in our place when our thoughts and priorities get out of line... lol
Praying for your friend. And your basement. =)

I tell ya... Cancer is one nasty witch. That is something that I will never understand.

But, mos. def. I will say a prayer for your friend... & big hugs to both of you ladies.

I think we all complain... & boy life has a way of reminding us it could always be worse.

When I was young I lost my Mom to breast cancer and I know that great advances have been made since then but if I had the money and/or insurance to pay for it, I would gladly let them take my "girls" for a bit of peace of mind.
Of course, I will say a prayer and think positive thoughts for your friend!

I do hope your friend's prognosis is good. It's great she has you and your expert husband to talk things through with and hopefully diminish some of the understandable fear. Bless x

Will definitely be praying for your friend. Cancer. Ugh.
I, am right there with you though...take the boobies. It's funny how much I don't care anymore. It may have a lot to do with the fact that my baby making days are done and that my dating & mating days are also over (the world is thankful, I'm sure).
But really, a few months ago, we had a scare here and as I sat in the cancer treatment center going through my hours long battery of tests and a needle biopsy, all I could think of is "The last thing I'll miss would be my freakin' boobs."
Will definitely be praying. Cancer is bullshit.

Yikes...when they say one out of three...they aren't kidding. I hope she gets through the surgery OK and all of her girlfriends rally around her and make her smile :)
