Crush or Stalker?

Ok, so someone is seriously crushing on me or stalking me and it isn't my husband. Well not visibly so, I sure do hope my husband is still crushing on me after 21 years. I mean how do you say no to a gal in flannel pajamas?

So, I'm talking about the guy at the Goodwill.

Yes I really am. Most of you know I frequent the Goodwill twice a week. It's an addiction, but if you want the goods you need to go often. I normally go on Tuesday and Thursday nights after I drop my daughter off at gymnastics. I'm a talker, and yes as much as it drives me crazy, I know that's why my kids talk so much and never shut up. So it should be no surprise that I know the people at GW. Most of them I know just by their faces and then there's Todd!

Todd is around 60 and actually reminds me of my dad, so maybe that's why he is easy to talk to. Somehow we started talking one day and we exchanged names. I could have said my name was Mary but I'm sure with my luck he would say, "Hi Mary" and I wouldn't answer. We usually just ask the basic, "How ya doing, how's the family?" kind of chit chat and that goes on when I check out. He is married and has a daughter and he happened to tell me that they almost named their daughter Megan, but changed it last minute. So pretty harmless stuff, right?

Around my town, I'm kinda known as the hat lady! I love hats and wear them often with either vintage pins or flowers on them. Just so you all know, it's not like I'm wearing hats like the gal from Hee Haw, but kind of like her, hats are my signature! So I happened to actually do my hair one day and walk into the GW! I start shopping around doing my thing and then here comes Todd who ends up doing a double take and said, "Wow, I almost didn't recognize you without your hat on. You are so much prettier without it, wow!" Yea, thanks, I guess! I was probably a little flattered but whatever. I checked out and on my way I went.

Thursday came and I headed to the GW. I believe I wore a hat and here comes Todd. He says, "Oh, you wore a hat again!" I know I looked at him oddly. He said, "I told you, you are so much prettier without your hats!" I said, "Thanks, but hey some days it just calls for a hat!" I just kind of brushed it off and continued to do my shopping.

Again, I didn't think much of it and Tuesday came and I remember I wasn't wearing my hat. Todd saw me and came right up to me and said, "So, how's beautiful doing today?" I know I rolled my eyes, come on buddy leave me alone! I said, "oh stop!" Then he says, "Your husband is a lucky guy!"

I know I gave him a look, like buddy, you're kinda crossing the line here. I just didn't want to make a big deal, so I kept doing my thing and prayed he wouldn't say anymore. Luckily as I passed the checkout he was no where to be found. So out the door I went.

So now it's Thursday and I do my usual run to GW. Now I wasn't wearing a hat and up until then I still never gave it a thought. Some days I do my hair and some days I don't. But I don't ever think, "Oh I'm going to the GW I better not wear a hat!" I found some darling tea cups and off I went to check out. As I approached the counter, I notice Todd at the checkout. No biggie right? My turn comes up and he says, "How do you do it?" um, "How do I do what?" "How do you get more beautiful every time I see you!"

Come on buddy! I then said, "Oh stop!" He says, "I don't think you want me to!" Um, yea I do! Hello like it has always been my dream to have the guy from GW hit on me! Yea, now I can cross that off my Bucket List! Ewwww, no thanks!

So is this harmless, is he a stalker, or is it sexual harassment? I mean it seems harmless and there are so many people around. I don't feel in danger but it is starting to creep me out!

I'm not going to give up my shopping at the Goodwill but I am thinking of going there with a brown paper bag on my head! I thought of the ski mask but I don't want them to think I'm there to rob the place!

Oh my. Nothing like being bugged when your trying to focus on finding treasures.
Is there another GW around?
I posted 2 of my GW finds today.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Well, I would definitely say keep a hat in the car, just in case!

Hillarious and he seems harmless. I would probably always wear a hat when I go to GW since he doesn't seem to like that as much. :)

Oh I would be so uncomfortable too...but, that reminds me I need to go to Goodwill tomorrow.

I hope he gets a clue and backs off soon.

Stalker, for sure. I of course start to babble in situations like that to fill up air space.

Well,...perhaps when you see him, you could mention things about your husband like,.."My husband got me a bunch of roses and cooked a wonderful dinner for me last night." And "My husband is sooo jealous that he almost punched a guy who was flirting with me. I could hardly hold him back." Also, "I'm looking for a couple new hats, my husband just LOVES me in hats." Etc,...

Yep. You should definitely go with the paper bag look for a while. Safer that way.

It could be totally harmless flirting, but these days, you never can be completely certain of this. You should not have to dress in sweats or not dress up to your full potential just because some guy is enamored with you, though. Maybe if you started going at a different time, he might not be working? Or if you still can only go in the evenings, I would park as close to the shop as possible and keep both eyes open. It's sad that we have to be suspicious, but too many women have been attacked lately :(

Oh, I am so sorry. This definitely made me laugh. I think you just need to be firm with him or beg your husband to come in one day. Maybe when he says something about you being beautiful just reply, "Thank you for thinking that. My husband thinks that way to and he is the only one I really want to comment on my looks. It would make me feel more comfortable if you kept your comments less awkward."

Good luck!

It may be harmless, but yuk. I had a neighbor like that once. Too friendly, too complimentary.
I wouldn't stop going in but I would be much less friendly, and possibly say I am uncomfortable with your comments. Ugh I don't envy you on this one. On having a good GW I totally do! :)

ITs hard not to comment when something is beautiful :) BUT I know what you mean when you are trying to just shop and someone is kind of creepin you out because your not too sure about them..Maybe you can say something to him that will stop it...Maybe not something mean, not that you would but just trying to think what you could say. hmmmmm

Thanks for the lovely comment read today :) Me and my family are OK thank goodness. I'm so proud to be a Kiwi and am in awe of how we've all come together to help the people of Christchurch.
Now is Good Will a shop where people have donated stuff and you can buy them and the proceeds go to people in need? We have something similar and it's where I get most of my pre-loved books :) Haven't been harassed as yet by weird creepy men....although will definitely be more vigilant now (crikey). Can you take your husband in next time and maybe Mr GW will get a clue and leave you be? Will keep my fingers crossed for ya :)

yes...can definately see how you would be uncomfortable...maybe you could mention that your husband is working on his 8th degree black belt (i have no idea if there is such a thing)...and that it would be nice to 'socialize' with todd and his wife if your husband wasn't so jealous...
seriously...i have no idea how to handle it...

What he's doing is inappropriate. If he continues I would call the manager. Found you on BPOW. Nice blog.

This is funny but at the same time a little freaky. You definitely need a disguise! ; )
